Big Yellow seeks to expand its Brent Cross centre

Big Yellow Self Storage is hoping to demolish and replace its centre in Brent Cross, London, with a six-storey building providing an extra 200,000 sq ft of floorspace.

The firm has submitted an application to Barnet Council to develop the facility which would include flexible office space, describing in its documents how the existing facilities, at Staples Corner, were  “tired and outdated.”

Big Yellow added that the new building would create a net increase of 195,850 sq ft of overall floorspace and add around £80m of gross value per year to the local economy.

The company, with a portfolio of 109 stores across the UK, including 47 in London, has identified a growing need for self-storage and affordable workspace, especially in the north-west London area.
