DPD’s new flagship site in London Docklands was officially opened by CEO Elaine Kerr and Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper MP in November.
The ground-breaking £40 million eco-regional sortation centre will sort all intra-London parcels for next-day delivery, instead of trunking them to the Midlands and back, as well as operating 500 all-electric delivery routes around the capital.
32 major customers attended the ceremonial opening event, including directors from O2, Mindful Chef, Google and Harrods.
Elaine Kerr said: “This is a momentous day for DPD, I’m really proud of what’s been achieved here by all the teams involved in making this amazing site a reality. DPD Docklands represents a key milestone in our ambitious decarbonisation journey and was inspired by listening to our customers and understanding that going green as quickly as possible is now crucially important to them.”
Mark Harper added: “It’s wonderful to see what happens behind the scenes at DPD. You are showing true leadership and ambition with your commitment to being Net Zero by 2040 – ten years ahead of the 2050 target set by the UK government. Logistics companies are the economic arteries of UK plc and this incredibly green and high-tech facility is living proof that private sector investment drives growth.”
